a multimedia lecture/ session that Belief is presenting at the Promax & BDA
Conference in New York in June. Pollinate 2005 is a follow up to last year's
session at Promax & BDA. If you are interested in seeing last year's session,

Project 1: Interpretation
Due Date (extended): May 22nd
Materials: Popsicle Sticks (you could use tongue depressors instead)
Assignment: Create a piece using 150 Popsicle sticks. Document the piece. Send us clear photos of the results, and describe your inspiration. Enjoy.

Project 2: Derivation
Due Date(extended): May 22nd
Materials: downloadable image (108KB)
Assignment: Use the download image as reference and create three images inspired by it. Do not use the downloaded image in your piece. Send us the results. Now try Project 3.

Project 3: Motivation
Due Date(extended): May 22nd
Materials: words, wit
Assignment: Create a motion design Haiku about what makes you want to get out of bed in the morning. Haiku-poems consist of respectively 5, 7 and 5 syllables in three units.
Example: I sleep in color
At night I dream in pixels
Day is my canvas
*Animations should be no longer than 10 seconds and can include typography or voice over as a means of communicating the Haiku. Send us the results. Enjoy.

*If you are not a motion designer, send us a written Haiku and we will try to assign it to a designer.

Project 4: Personalize
Due Date(extended): May 22nd
Materials: skills, identity
Assignment: Create a 10 second motion design self-portrait. Send us the results. Pat yourself on the back.

Project 5: Origin
Due Date(extended): May 22nd
Materials: downloadable image (240KB)
Assignment: Use the downloaded image as reference and create three images inspired by it. Do not use the downloaded image in your piece.

Project 6: Rollie Fingers
Due Date(extended): May 22nd
Materials: camera, facial hair
Assignment: Grow and groom a mustache. Or if you are a woman, grow a fake mustache. You can also grow and record multiple mustaches. Record the growing of your mustache using time lapse or stills. Send us the results. Shave. We recommend the Mach 3.

Project 7: Re-appropriate
Due Date(extended): May 22nd
Materials: downloadable Quicktimes

Assignment: Download these Quicktime movies and use the footage to create
a new piece. Pieces should be no longer than 30 seconds in length. There are two Quicktimes that correspond to the
posted still images. These two Quicktimes are rendered straight with alpha channels.

Project 8: Colorize
Due Date(extended): May 22nd
Materials: Camera
Assignment: Take a picture of something that, to you, represents each primary and secondary color. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple. Send us the pictures. Maybe try Projects 9, 10 and 11.

Project 9: Visual Audio
Due Date(extended): May 22nd

Assignment: Download this audio clip and create or edit visuals for the audio. Animations should be no longer than the length of the audio download Send us the results. Enjoy.

Project 10: Redesign Yourself
Due Date(extended): May 22nd
Materials: camera, yourself
Assignment: Take before photos of yourself from different angles. Redesign
yourself, and take after photos of yourself from the same angles. Transformations could include but
are not limited to weight, hair color, attitude, fashion, henna tattoos, mental state. Send us the results.

Project 11: Sixty Dots
Due Date(extended): May 22nd
Materials: downloadable image (132KB)
Assignment: Create a drawing by connecting the dots. Each dot can only have three lines coming out of it. You cannot add new dots. Try to create a figurative/ non-abstract composition. Send us the resulting piece. The maximum number of
lines you can have is 180. Okay, now go.
